holiday greetingWhether we are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Agnostic or Atheist, in the West, at this time of year, we can’t escape the holiday music, bright decorations, garlands of green, excited children and greetings of “Happy Holidays!”

I sat in a beautiful church today. It was not a holiday service; it was a funeral — for a good man who had lived a long life. The theme was love. The music and the theme took me out of my list of tasks and my usual need to be productive. I felt a more gentle energy. I reflected on my thought that many people feel that gentler (more loving?) energy in this season of giving and light.

DifferenceWORKS is about understanding and appreciating difference. In the news today is so much about division, hatred and violence – between whites and blacks, have’s and have-not’s, Republicans and Democrats, and people of different faiths or religious beliefs. Difference does work. Diversity and inclusion drive better decisions and better bottom lines. We need our differences. Wouldn’t it be nice to love them?

My holiday wish is for that more gentle and loving energy to link us across our differences. “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with . . .” us.

May this be a season of light, love and peace for you!
